The article is trying to convey the message that deforestation and logging is causing great harm to the Earth. If this goes on, there will not be enough rainforests to take in the greenhouse gases and hence, it will lead to serious global warming/climate change problems which will impact the whole world greatly, including myself. Therefore, what we can do as an individual is to cut down on the use of paper and other products made from wood. Although using both sides of a paper may seem like just a small effort, i believe that it can really help to save the earth if everyone adopts this good habit.
Due to massive deforestation in many parts of the world, our Earth is slowly but surely losing its forests, and with them, its ability to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. This will result in an increase in temperature in already sunny Singapore.
In addition, the resulting global warming may lead to the sea levels rising and covering all or some parts of our homeland, which is barely above sea level.
As individuals, we should do our part to reduce the need for logging by recycling old textbooks and paper. I also strongly believe that we should recycle our Monday newspapers instead of throwing them directly into the trash bin.
As trees are being grown, timber is being felled in large amounts too. Deforestation will release greenhouse gases, but countries just could not stop felling timber as there are large profits to be made and plantations could be grown from the deforested land. If there isn’t a demand, there won’t be a supplier. Please, cut down your use of paper.

This article emphasizes that the trees are worth more, to the people, cut down than remained untouched. Even if some people make an effort to plant some saplings, many more trees are being chopped down. Deforestation leads to low absorption of greenhouse gases (i.e. carbon dioxide) and an increase in global warming. This means that the situation of global warming will not get better if deforestation of rainforests is not stopped or at least greatly reduced. As an individual, I can reduce the demand for timber by reusing scrap paper and using both sides of a single sheet.
trees are being cut down at a huge and rapid rate for money. this will mean that in the near future, the world’s temperature will rise significantly because there are not enough trees to absorb greenhouse gases. i can use less paper in school and at home so that the demand for paper, which is a product of timber, can be reduced. a small thing goes a long way.

The main message of the article is to appeal to all of us to stop deforestation and to really mean it. Deforestation contributes to Global Warming which puts all of us and our planet Earth in danger. As an individual, I can help by recycling the resources I am priviledged to. I can use a piece of paper on its both side and throw recyclable things such as plastic bottles into the recycling bins instead.
The main message the article is trying to bring across is that the excessive rate of deforestation will not benefit us and in turn, lead to other problems such as Global Warming. The rate at which trees are being cut down can be reduced if we are able to recycle the daily materials we require (such as paper).
Deforestation will lead to air pollution which will do damage to our respiratory system.
As in individual, I can do my part by reducing deforestation by recycling paper.
1) When printing information with multiple pages, I can print double sided copies instead of printed one-sided copies.
2) Paper with information which I no longer need can be put aside and be used as rough paper in future.
The message the article was trying to convey is that to obtain a balance between protecting and felling trees for economic purposes in developing countries would be a challenging feat. However, this is required as alongside being utilized for economy benefit, trees from the forests have to be protected, as it plays a key role in protecting everyone from the harmful effects of global warming due to it absorbing greenhouse gases. Therefore, I think what we can do is learn how to recycle paper and hence reduce paper demand. Hopefully, if everyone plays a part, the international demand for paper would greatly decrease, and lesser trees would be felled, thereby saving many trees from being felled and indirectly save ourselves from calamity
After reading about this article on deforestation, only then I realised the gravity of this issue. If forests are still continuously being deforestated, soon our world will be lack of green and all of us will choke in smoke and gases. We should influence each other and spread this news about to increase the awareness in people to plant more trees and reduce deforestation.
The main message of the article is focusing on deforestation, the income that it can give now, and the climate changes that it causes. Even though deforestation can bring in quite a substancial income for a family, it greatly reduces the rainforest’s ability to take in greenhouse gases. Deforestation will also impact us as it will cause global warming, as it is responsible for 20% of all greenhouse gases emissions. Global warming causes the sea levels to rise, and perhaps, Singapore may be covered with water in the future. Deforestation also brings about haze, which affects visibility and breathing. I don’t think that I can do much now to solve the problem of deforestation, but a first step in using less paper, and more recycled paper would help in reducing deforestation. We could also educate more people on the ecological value of trees, and also provide alternative fuels for poor people who cut down trees for firewood.
We should not chop down trees. Trees are very important as they can hold the soil together and prevent land slides. Shortage for trees can lead to global warming. Did you ever thought of the consequences? We should not waste paper and recycle them. Use less wood e.g. to make wooden furniture.
We should strongly discourage deforestation. We plant a tree, in hope to see it growing as a strong tree, and then not long after, someone cuts it down. It is really sad. Consequently, we’re storing carbon, considering the fact that chopping trees down means less leaves to absorb the carbon.

After reading the article on deforestation, the message is obviously clear.
But apparently, it doesnt seem to be getting majority of the people’s attention. Why?
From the article, Deforestation is estimated to be responsible for 20% of all greenhouse gases emissions, that is more than all forms of transports put together!
Even Dr. Waidi Sunun, a senior official with the Sabah Foundation admits that he wouldn’t have been able to get a scholarship to the UK or even go to school as a matter of fact, if it wasnt for timber.
“It’s a question of balance”
It is true that countries such as Malaysia requires timber to earn money. But, if the Earth dies, does money even matter anymore?
Should deforestation continue, our ozone layer would be destroyed and Mother Earth would die, meaning we all would die too.
As an individual, one can help to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by taking public transport around instead of having your parents taking you there.
If the Earth dies, you die.
Its like saying “I’m killing myself”
The main message of this article is whether we want to earn more money by carrying out deforestation or to save Mother Earth by stopping deforestation. This will affect me as I am studying I am indirectly using timber. If they stop deforestation, I’ll not have any books or papers, but if they do not stop deforestation, it will affect our climate. I can help by reducing, reusing and recycling papers so that lesser trees are being cut down.
I was feeling a little shocked when I read about the global warming website. Will our poor animals die and turn extinct due to our selfishness ?
Bascially, the BBC website stated that humans have been carrying out deforestation, using CFC products, burning of our natural resources (like fossil fuels) and hence, contributing to global warming and carbon dioxide emissions.
Therefore, this causes plants and animals to deplete, and they will continue to disappear if we don’t do anything to save our Earth.
To save our melting Earth, we can start off by doing simple things like using environmentally friendly bags instead of plastic ones ( NTUC also gives a 10 cent rebate if you don’t use their plastic bags). Also, we can Practice the three Rs. They are: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We can also contribute by switching off our electrical appliances when not in use. Of course there are other ways to do so but these are some easy ones, just to name a few.
I think it’s worthwhile to do these easy steps to save our Earth. 🙂
According to Kalsum Mohammed Yusah, chopping down trees are “storing carbon” on our Earth. Human using CFC products to carry out deforestation and this will led to global warming. We are destroying the place we live.
However, deforestation makes money. Moreover, we cannot survive without books and papers. So, we cannot stop chopping down the trees immediately unless we could find other resources to replace wood.
Therefore, we shall take small ways to reduce, reuse and recycle papers to prevent more and more trees to be chopped down. Save our only Earth.
I was rather shocked after reading the article. Are we really doing this to Mother Nature?
The article talks about how deforestation harms our environment and also asks us a rhetorical question, is money or mather nature of more importance.
Seeing that i am a student, and the books, papers that are essential for a student are made from timber, if we do not stop deforestation soon, very soon, there will not be any more trees left to make paper.
So, i urge everybody to start engaging in activities that will help to reduce deforestation.
The main message of the article is that we should not continue with the act of deforestation and logging. As a result of this, there will be lesser trees to take in carbon dioxide and this will lead to global warming, destruction of the world and of us. We should reduce the use of paper and also use recycled ones instead of new paper.
The main message of this article is to educate us on the fact that we humans are cutting down trees for our own selfish reasons, leading to severe deforestation. It affects me as,if the rate of deforestation continues to increase, soon, we will have no more wood and paper to use. Animals would also turn extinct as their homes are being destroyed. Deforestation only leads to Global Warming, another harmful effect wich will destroy Earth! We can all do our part by reducing the amount of paper we use each day and to make sure we recycle the paper after using. This may be a small part but, by doing so, we will greatly decrease the amount of paper wasted and the amount of trees cut down each day.
The main message, in my opinion, is that the trees from the rainforests play a very important part in the environment, as they help to absorb the greenhouse gases. If no one does anyone about it, the problem is going to deteriorate and the earth’s ozone layer will deplete even more and the consequences will not be light.
Deforestation will cause drastic climate changes, such as the melting of ice caps which will lead to the rise of sea level, which will certainly affect me in one way or another. Whether it is the shortage of paper or my country submerging under water, the climate changes will surely affect me.
Hence, in order to save myself and the Earth, we can recycle paper by using the blank side of used paper and print on both sides of the paper.
The main message of the article is to inform us that deforestation has dire consequences, and to encourage us reduce deforestation, as far as we can. People cut down trees constantly to make a profit, but it’s destroying Mother Earth in the process. In the long run, we will suffer because of it. It will lead to a drastic increase in temperature, which will be disastrous. Even as a student, we can do our part by using less paper and recycling it. Even a little thing like that can go a long way.

The main message of this article is that at one point, we will have to make a choice between saving our environment and saving our economy. This affects me as this is the world I am growing up in, and I am afraid that the decision would be to save the society at the expense of Mother Nature. Without Mother Nature, we will not be able to function in our society, and what would the need for good economy be then? We would probably find even just living one day a challenge as the air would be polluted, and we would be suffering. We would then stop to regret our decision of not taking action to prevent our impending doom. As individuals, we can each do our part to prevent this phenomenon by reducing our usage of materials such as paper which would in turn lead to a lesser demand for the felling of trees, and would get us one step closer to saving ourselves from the situation waiting for us if we let deforestation continue.
The main message ofthis whole article is to bascially stop the chopping of trees. There is an increased demand for paper as the world’s population grow bigger.
And this leads to deforestation. Deforestation is a state when many trees and forests are cleared. This will affect many lives of the animals as their homes are where we are chopping trees from.
So i think what we can do now is obvious stop wasting unneccessary pieces of paper. Every act count.
The main message of the article is an attempt to spread to the public to stop deforestation to continue taking place. It wondered to me the consequences our planet Earth is facing— Global warming and a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity.
Adhere to the 3Rs—reduce, reuse and recycle.
Stop wasting the limited and precious resources we have on Earth.
Deforestation is the chopping down or burning down excessive trees that our EARTH is in danger. Thanks to our selfishness, trees are being cut down to provide for our increasing demand of paper. Start saving the world by not using CFC products and wasting natural resources. We should recycle natural resources instead of throwing them down the chute. Also, we should bring our own bags when going groceries-shopping.
Start saving our wonderful Mother Earth before it is too late. It is not just for our sake, it is for our future generations, for the survival and continuation of homo-sapiens. We should take the initiative and start protecting our planet since we cannot convince others to stop chopping trees then we must convince ourselves to stop wasting natural resources thus encouraging them to cut more trees, and destroying more forests. Our little efforts would be recognised.
“Treasure the earth as if this moment is your last chance…Love like you have never love before…”
Think of the consequences of your doings. Be proud of it. Never give up and be resilient and try your best.
I’m sure many people will strongly oppose the act of deforestation, after learning how much damage it can cause to our environment.
People clear rainforests, cut down thousands of trees, practise logging just for the benefit of mankind – to set up farms/ranches, construct cities for the ever growing population, and for shifting cultivation. But few people stop to think about the consequences of these selfish actions. What are they? 1) Increased carbon dioxide emissions which can eventually lead to global warming 2) Animals losing their natural habitats and dying of hunger 3) Falling of acid rain which can corrode statues, etc. With such disastrous outcomes, how come so many people are still turning a blind eye?
All of us can help lessen the damage done by practising the 3Rs: Reuse, reduce, recycle! Save the Earth today!
The main message of this article is to stop deforestation in the world.
Deforestation destroys many species of plants and animals’ habitat. Thus, reducing biodiversity and this makes us risk losing organisms that might have be useful in the future (e.g. Medicines or crops). Deforestation is also likely to increase the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The end result will have a direct adverse effect on the global weather patterns.
I believe I can play a part to stop deforestation by encouraging conservation of the rainforests in the world. We should practice recycling whenever possible. This is not just limited to wood products like paper, but should include all materials that can be recycled. The simple act of printing on both sides of a piece of paper will go a long way to save the planet. So do your part to save Mother Earth.
After reading the article on deforestation, I understand what is happening around us and to our dear Earth better.
First of all, what is Deforestation? Deforestation is the cruel process of chopping down trees and releasing huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the Earth’s atmosphere. Deforestation is also one of the key points leading to Global Warming and Ozone Depletion. The BBC article states how trees are being chopped for wood and timber to make much-needed money. However, did they ever think of the dire consequences of their thoughtless actions?
Deforestation causes Global Warming and Ozone Depletion and ultimately, it would befall on us humans and the other living things on Earth. Deforestation causes many animals to be homeless and the weaker ones would die. The stronger animals may survive but how long must they search till they find themselves a new home? Think, why should the rest of the innocent living things suffer the same terrible fate as us when they did nothing to offend the Earth?
To amend our inconsiderate actions, we can start off by putting to action the 3Rs always mentioned — Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. You may find it hurtful to see a beautiful forest turn into ashes and want to go up and stop them but do you think would even look at you? You can reduce the amount of usage by turning off the air-conditioner on a hot day. Reuse the water you use to wash rice for watering plants. Just finished a can of coke? Search for the nearest recycling bins and find the one that says, “Cans” and pop your can into that bin. By doing all these small actions, you have just done your part in saving the Earth.
The main message of the article is that we should stop deforestation as it is harmful to all things that inhabit the earth.
With the existence of less trees, the carbon dioxide absorbed is less and it increases global warming, everybody is dying in the heat.
We all know that we need trees and deforestation is wrong but we still continue. We can take part in those parties that help to plant trees, we can remind all those around us to save paper and to minimize energy-usage.
Many hands make light work; if we all help in small parts to reduce the demand for wood-require products, I am positive this situation will improve.
Deforestation is the clearing of Earth’s forests on a massive scale. Its effects are: soil erosion, disruption of the water cycle, weather changes and the loss of biodiversity. To reduce the degree of deforestation, laws must be enacted swiftly as this has severely affected the Earth’s ability to absorb the excess CO2 in the atmosphere.
As an individual, I would encourage tree-planting and adopting the 3R’s (reduce, reuse & recycle) on the forest’s end-product.
Deforestation is the cutting down of forests on a large scale. As more and more trees are being cut down, the global warming will start to increase for there are not enough trees to absorb the excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. I hope that everyone will adopt the 3R’s which is reduce, reuse and recycle. If possible, I hope that less trees will be cut down.
Reflections on deforestation:
The main message of this article is to tell all of us that the rainforests are being destroyed and trees are being felled for the logging industry everyday. Deforestation has lead to many problems and the most serious problem is the increase in the carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) in our atmosphere because there are now so few trees to absorb the gas. With the increase in carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gases trap more UV rays within the atmosphere. That explains the increase in the Earth’s temperature and the unpredictable weather. Deforestation affects all of us because if we keep cutting down trees, soon there will be more serious global warming and the ice caps will melt and small islands might even get submerged. As an individual, I can help to solve the problem of deforestation by recycling paper and using both side of a piece of paper instead of only one side. I can stop wasting paper and use products made from recycled materials. I can encourage my friends and family to do the same and help cut down deforestation and save our environment.
even though we do not see the empty forests, or the logs being shifted away, deforestation is truly destroying our lives. deforestation might not be what we’re most interested in as it does not occur in our modern city, it is, and has always been creating problems for us. the trees in the forest are cut down, and used to make paper or the spare plot of land used for urbanisation. but these actions taken is resulting in more carbon dioxide in the air as well as the effects of global warming to worsen. if we do not do anything about it, our earth will soon be barren. no more rainforests and maybe even bukit timah hill would be deforested into nothing but bare land. therefore, we should not encourage excess cutting down of trees. use less paper, reuse paper that has only been filled on one side and do not throw away paper bags from shopping, keep them and use them again. these little measures we take would definitely help to SAVE THE EARTH!
Global warming has dire consequences on our lives and the earth. Greenhouse emissions would increase the temeprature, and many coastal areas and islands would soon be submerged in water. Thus, we have to start reducing, reusing and recycling to do our part and save the earth. We can reuse the plastic bags when doing groceries, by carrying our own bags. In addition, we can reuse the paper on both sides and recycle them, instead of using only one side and then throwing it away. I would discourage cutting down of trees, and try to save the earth by reducing our use on resources. Although these measures may seem small, our combined efforts would make a big difference to the earth.
it’s really sad to see trees after trees being cut down. Lesser trees means more carbon will be build up and we, together with all the other plants and animals will suffer. we are constantly destroying Earth and we must stop it!
Everyday, trees are being cut down in truckloads while others are trying to conserve the rest of the rainforests. With the trees being cut down more rapidly than they are planted, there is a built up of carbon in the surrounding, hence increasing the temperature. We can help by practicing the 3 Rs.Although our effort may be small, together, we make a difference.
The article is trying to tell us that we have to STOP CUTTING TREES! The trees are totally harmless! Without the trees, global warming would occur, that means, the HOT and unpredictable weather that would most probably make us fall ill. During deforestation, the roots of the trees are unable to hold the soil together anymore and the soil would slide into the water bodies thus polluting the water. Then, it would kill the fishes! And we have no fish and chips to eat.. ): Without the trees, animals would also lose their habitats. So, we can make a difference by keeping the 3Rs in mind! (: ALL THE WAY TO SAVE THE TREES!!!!!!
